White Paper List Discontinued Due To Malware Concerns

A long-running list of white papers will no longer be issued on a weekly basis. Malware has apparently become too much of a threat for the man behind the "FREE White Paper List" to continue.
Jonathan Kantor, the founder and president of the White Paper Company, explained in a blog post, "Everything was going smoothly until this past week, when I reviewed a new white paper from Symantec called 'The Rise of PDF Malware' . . . . One of the white papers named in this report that was used to spread malware was called, 'Is There Still a Need for War Time Mobilization? China Thinks So,'a white paper that was previously featured on my free white paper list back in April 2010."
So Kantor continued, "I can no longer be in position to be a contributor to the spread of viruses and malware. As a result, I have decided to discontinue the FREE White Paper List. The decision comes with a heavy heart since the list has become a popular source for white paper ideas and subsequent blog posts."
That means some white paper authors will lose a valuable source of publicity. And even white paper experts who aren't in any way connected to the FREE White Paper List could have reason to worry.
After all, Symantec's findings could mean that the public will start to view PDF white papers with a lot more suspicion. Then authors will not only have to worry about appealing to people, but also getting them to let down their guard against malware.
White paper experts should keep this in mind when trying to promote their offerings.
